15th Edition
Festival runs from March 30 to April 5, 2026
A new edition of LAFF with celebrated star Mahmoud Hemida as
Honorary President
Screenwriter Sayed Fouad, founder and president of the Luxor
African Film Festival (LAFF), announced the launch of the film submission form
for the festival’s four main competitions:
·
Long Films Competition
(Narrative, Documentary, and Animation) – for films over 60 minutes.
·
Short Films Competition
(Narrative, Documentary, and Animation) – both of these competitions are open
exclusively to African directors.
·
Diaspora Films Competition
(Narrative or Documentary Long Films) – for African filmmakers residing outside
the continent, making films about Africa from a global perspective.
·
Youth Films Competition – for
young filmmakers from the governorates of Qena and Luxor.
Azza
El Hosseiny, founder and director of LAFF, said:
"Several months before the festival, we will organize a workshop
dedicated to those interested in making short films with no budget, targeting
youth from Luxor and Qena. The aim is to develop their skills and give them the
opportunity to become part of the Egyptian and African cinematic landscape.
This initiative is not limited to offering film workshops; it also includes
opening submissions for a special film competition dedicated to Luxor and Qena,
with members of the jury coming from these two governorates themselves."
She
added: "The festival had previously announced that the upcoming 15th
edition will honor the late filmmaker Youssef Chahine and his cinematic works
on the centennial of his birth, under the title: ‘Youssef Chahine… An Egyptian
Story.’"
The
festival management also announced that the 15th edition will take place from
March 30 to April 5, 2026, in Luxor, southern Egypt. Film submissions will open
on August 20, 2025, and close on November 25, 2025, via the festival’s official
website. All films must have been produced in 2025 and must not have been
previously screened in Egypt.
